RTS-Sanctuary _ AOE3 General Discussion _ Introducing [hope] Clan's AOE3 World Series!

Posted by: Mayh3M Jan 8 2010, 06:22 PM

http://www.age3clan.com/hope/index.php

We're at it again folks; and this time we are proud to present to you [hope] Clan's AOE3 World Series! This is going to be a somewhat special tournament, and is a celebration of the AOE3 community who have stuck by and continue to enjoy the game. With this in mind, the organisers have worked hard to create a tournament which is sure to be thoroughly enjoyable for all the players involved; and with a prize pool of $1,500, it will no doubt be rewarding too! The tournament will feature new ideas, from region-based group leagues for efficient early round scheduling; to 2 independant final 32-player knockout tournaments, both of which will include the ever-popular loser brackets employed in the successful Last Man Standing tournament.

Further good news follows, as we are closely working with our contributors and donators to plan another series of tournaments to follow [hope] Clan's AOE3 World Series. In fact, we are in the early development stage of another 3 tournaments this year, all of which will include the same high level of generous prizes up for grabs. 2010 is certainly looking bright for AOE3!

Signups, with tournament rules and regulations, will follow the release of TAD Fan Patch 1.2. Stay sharp!

Here is a brief summary of our tournament system:

Sign ups will be limited to 96 players. These 96 players will be divided into 16 groups of 6 players. The groups will feature players who are within the same region, or are at least within a similar time zone. Within each group, players must face every other player once and duke it out for a good position in the table, in a point scoring league system. After all the games have been played, the top 2 players in each group will progress to the final championship knockout tournament consisting of 32 players. But it doesn't end there! Players who finished 3rd and 4th respectively will progress to a separate 32 player knockout tournament. Both of these knockout tournaments will run in parallel and will contain the same rules. Due to the generosity of our donators, there is a healthy dose of prize money up for grabs in both knockout tournaments. With regards to the 3rd and 4th knockout tournament; in order to ensure it consists of lower and mid ranked players as intended, we will place a restriction; of which players above a certain seed are ineligible to participate. Remember, detailed rules will be posted with the sign up thread.

So are the groups to be organised on the basis of region or on the basis of time zones? Will US players get put in the same group as South American players? Will Australians and Kiwis go in the same groups as the Japanese, particularly if there isn't enough of us to fill a 6-member group?

Never mind, read the post more carefully.

Sounds awesome. I'll admit I don't fully understand the format, but I will still signup and take part. I think this should bring a lot of players back to the game.

Posted by: hclugano Jan 8 2010, 07:53 PM

Region takes priority. If we can't fill in 6 player groups with players of one particular region, then we'll try to include players from other regions who have a similar time zone.

This will hopefully bring some oldies back. I heard Starsky went back to AoM. Wouldn't mind seeing some old experts challenging the current experts.

And of course, the FanPatch must continue to develop!
